Description

Kingsley had decided to own a human. This was not a decision to be taken lightly. After all, owning a human is a responsibility.

But finding the right kind of human is much harder than Kingsley expected. Some are too bossy. Some are too busy. And some just don’t seem to appreciate a dog the way they should. Will Kingsley ever find a human that is exactly right?

A sweet, tender and deeply funny story about the power of friendship, and one dog’s mission to find his perfect person.

About the Author

Gabriel Evans is an author and illustrator of picture books, including Ollie and Augustus and The Cute Penguin. He illustrates his own books as well as illustrating for several acclaimed authors. Gabriel travels around Australia visiting schools in capital cities and remote communities in the Pilbara and the Kimberley, where he offers creative illustration and picture book workshops. He creates his stories in a messy studio near a river where he drinks tea and grows oak trees.

Praise for A Human for Kingsley

"The combination of Evans’s action-packed drawings of a dog on a mission and short, sharp language, reflective of a curious dog’s thoughts, works brilliantly to emanate humour, warmth and wonderment. A Human for Kingsley leads the reader on a playful journey of finding friendship and understanding reciprocity." —Books + Publishing

"Delicate earth-toned illustrations rely on fine, sketchy outlines, pale color highlights, and all-white backgrounds to humorously flesh out the spare text.  . . . An endearing, visually rib-tickling ode to best friends." —Kirkus Reviews on Ollie and Augustus

"Sweet and spare, the illustrations convey large feelings." —Booklist on Ollie and Augustus

"Children will be gratified by the touching conclusion to this Australian import that explores feelings and relationships. Grown-ups sharing this tender story might help children volunteer their own experiences making new friends."—Kirkus Reviews
